It’s really taken off.”ĭean Dennis from Dean’s Tattoo Headquarter, another veteran at the show, was one of the impressed ones. It’s amazing what’s happened, especially in the last five to ten years. We both did portraits there and blew everyone away. Back then, there was like one convention per year. I remember going to a convention in Sacramento in 1980. ![]() “Jack Rudy and I introduced black and grey portrait tattooing to the world in 1977. As it turns out, one of the first tattoo artist to start doing portraits is at the convention, namely Freddy Negretti at Mark Mahoney’s Shamrock Social Club in Hollywood. Suddenly the area around the stage is filled with bare male backs, mostly covered in realistic tattoos. The style of tattoos varies a lot, as Baba pointed out, but one of the contests on Saturday attracts a surprising amount of participants, Best Black and Grey Big. Saturday is the most crowded day, but it never gets unbearable like at some other shows. The Cow Palace is never really packed with people. Unfortunately there are no lawyers present at the Cow Palace this time – or travel agents, for that matter. Sometimes, you can go into a place and people often think “Who’s this guy?”, but if the lawyer or travel agent has tattoos, he’s going to be cooler about it.” “Some of them look down on tattooed people so we invite tattooed lawyers. “We’ve had lawyers who strictly defend tattoo companies”, Baba tells me. Other tattoo related businesses at the different shows includes after care companies and, maybe more unexpected, lawyers. We also have clothing companies, often started by wives or girlfriends of tattoo artists.” “We black out the porn and we just want to show that nowadays tattoos are for everybody, not just sailors. “It’s very family orientated”, he tells me. They feel free to show off their bodies.”ĭespite the presence of Burning Angel and the Best Orgasm contest, Baba still feels it’s a convention for the whole family: If you look around at a convention you see people walking around in their underwear or with their tops off. People who are into tattoos are normally exhibitionists. “First of all, I think tattoos are sexy and two cultures have many similarities. At the conventions she sells movies, posters, photos, and she sees a clear connection between her line of work and tattoos. Burning Angel is a porn company where most employees are tattooed. In the booth next to Vintage Tattoo sits Joanna Angel, the owner of one of the tattoo related companies that attends many of these conventions. In San Francisco they’re more open to all that perverted stuff.” In Chicago, however, where we used to have a convention as well, they didn’t get it at all. The guys from China love that and it works well here in San Francisco. We also have the contests for Best Ass and Best Orgasm where people come up and fake orgasms. “Usually a kid wins the contest for Best Stud”, Baba says with a smile. Yes, it is.” Key word number three, weird. He presents himself as “Crazy” and he’s the presenter during the contests “I think it’s Best Stud today”, he says. We do, however, have competitions to hype up the crowd before the tattoo contests… ‘Hey Crazy! What’s the weird thing we have today?’” Down one of the aisles comes a man in shades and long white, braided hair underneath a bandana and a black top hat. Other conventions have burlesque shows, concerts, hot rod shows and so on, but not us. “We always try to give the customer as much value for his or her money as possible, but it’s all tattoo related. The idea is to show off many different styles on a large scale.” Which brings us key word number two, variety. ![]() At the time I had a column called “The Gospel According To Baba” in the magazine so they turned Megaproductions on to me since I’ve been tattooing since the 80’s. “Megaproductions is a company who puts on large productions of any kind and they wanted a large scale tattoo convention. At least according to Baba at Vintage Tattoo in Los Angeles, the main sponsor of the show: It’s even bigger than this one!”Īs the guy in the smoking area outside the Cow Palace points out, big is a key word when talking about this specific chain of conventions that are held twice annually in San Francisco and Pomona, and once a year in Arizona, San Diego and Houston. "You should go to the convention in Pomona. Porn, best stud and orgasm-contests and still family orientated? The Tattoo Body Art Expo in San Francisco is just one of seven on the tour of Megaproductions gigantic shows in the American tattoo world and its goal is to be big, varied and weird…

![]() ![]() What pros and cons can you add to the ones already mentioned in my post?.Where do you store your attachment files?. ![]() Summed up, some general questions I would like to discuss with others: Since about half an hour now obsidian is caching (?) in the background and became virtually unusable (at least, reacting extremely slow) for me, continuously eating around 2 GB of RAM… The overall question came up again today when I moved a couple of pdf files (not my literature files, but some work sheets and information material) to a subfolder of my vault around 40 files maybe, including two videos. Could this be a meaningful option others of you would like to see? Or doesn’t that make any sense at all? Have others already experimented with such a large attachment folder? Which solutions have you found?Ī kind of compromise could be (maybe as a feature request) that obsidian would allow to “connect” to an external attachments folder, thus allowing to open external pdfs in its integrated viewer. I am afraid that this could massively slow down obsidian (to be honest, I still haven’t completely understood obsidian’s caching process… Does obsidian, for example, only cache file names of other file formats like pdf or also content?). My attachments folder contains several thousand of pdf files, summing up to an overall size of currently 10 GB - and it is continuously growing.
So it's very intense, because people hate me, as they should as that character." The jubilation and meme-filled reactions to this sequence on Twitter further emphasize how much the audience wanted to see Stormfront taken down. When Aya Cash recently spoke to SYFY FANGRRLS, she discussed the viewer's reaction to her character, saying, "She's a vile, horrible, disgusting person. ![]() When all seems lost, the surprise arrival of Queen Maeve is a cheer-inducing moment.Ĭue a walloping punch worthy of a Batman '60s graphic and the start of an incredibly satisfying fight. Starlight's power and Kimiko's strength are not enough, which leaves Kimiko temporarily dispatched while she recovers from death by broken neck. Two supes plus three locked-and-loaded guys versus one original Vought-made superhero doesn't sound too tough, all things considered, except Stormfront has decades on them and quickly destroys the weapons cache. Bolstered by weapons - including something Frenchie has rigged up to weaken Stormfront's powers - it looks like it will be a relatively easy fight during the final confrontation. They just don't like the word Nazi, that's all," she tells Annie who has been working with the titular Boys. Branding has a way of building someone up, but it can just as easily tear someone down. The switch from the all-at-once drop of Season 1 to a weekly release schedule on the streaming platform may have been met with boos from some fans, but it undoubtedly helped raise the tension which quite literally explodes in "What I Know." Stormfront's plan to divide a country aided by an online army and ramp up hatred was going swimmingly until her true origin was leaked to the news. Since then, the jigsaw pieces of the Nazi-Vought puzzle have fallen into place with each episode pulling back this swastika-emblazoned curtain. People who are familiar with the comics (in which Stormfront is a guy) or the Third Reich connotations of this character name were prepared for this reveal, but not all viewers were. But it is her inspiring Pippi Longstocking speech to Starlight that truly sells her as a feminist badass - a status that was short-lived, thanks to the racist hatred she unleashes in the following episode when she slaughters innocent people before killing Kimiko's (Karen Fukuhara) younger brother. Her unfiltered responses at the junket, including a diatribe about her costume lacking pockets and pointing out the very obvious factor that neither gender makes a better hero lay the "shero" groundwork. This episode was written by Rebecca Sonnenshine - who also wrote the finale - which turned Stormfront into a new "feminist" hero. This is indicative of how companies use female empowerment to sell a product and is a continuation of the conversation about Annie's Starlight costume in Season 1. Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) bailed on the junket due to a family emergency - her girlfriend had been taken to hospital with appendicitis - which left her fellow supes fielding a range of eye-roll-inducing questions. ![]() Stormfront and Starlight have been an integral part of the Girls Get It Done campaign that was introduced in the episode "Proper Presentation and Planning." But at the same time we witness Benjamin's mum combat her own issues from suffering with depression to hiding her illiteracy. What we watch is how through his mum's persistence Benjamin goes from being just a kid to a young inquisitive mind with a thirst for knowledge which leads to University and medical school. But the story then takes us back to 1961 where a young Benjamin is struggling in class where he is labelled as dumb and suffers from bouts of anger. "Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story" opens in 1986 as Ben is asked to fly to West Germany where he is asked to consider operating on conjoined twins joined at the head something which previously had never been done successfully. But his story starts long before that and it is his story starting in 1961 which is the focus of "Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story". I will be honest and say I had never heard of him and I am sure I am not alone but his story and in truth the story of his family is an inspiring one. ![]() Mac users belief of the invulnerability of their systems makes the threat even more serious, according to security experts. Its clear that we are faced with an unprecedented attack of Mac malware. So one in 100 Macs is infected, they wrote. However, with an installed base of between 60 million and 70 million, that means about 1 percent of all Macs worldwide have been compromised, they said in an April 7 blog. Given the millions of Windows PCs that have been infected in the past by such malware as Conficker, the 600,000-plus may seem small, according to researchers at security software vendor Intego. Researchers Said About 1 Percent of Macs Was Affected More than 98 percent of incoming network packers were most likely sent from Mac OS X hosts, Soumenkov wrote. Kaspersky wasnt able to say whether all the bots coming into its server were running Mac OS X, but that by using passive operating system fingerprinting techniques, researchers were able to get a rough estimation. Through a similar sinkholing operation, Kaspersky noted that more than 600,000 unique bots connected to a domain the company had set up, and that the Flashback malware used more than 620,000 external IP address. ![]() That number initially drew skepticism, but in an April 6 post on Kasperkys SecureList blog, security expert Igor Soumenkov said Kaspersky researchers were able to confirm Doctor Webs numbers. Security firms said they began seeing new variants of the Flashback malware in mid-March, and researchers with a Russian firm, Doctor Web, reported last week that through a sinkholing operationwhere they essentially were able to gain control of command and control (C&C) serversthey were able to determine that more than 600,000 Macs worldwide had been infected, with more than half being in the United States and Canada. ![]() Even so, only a few were using a traditional anti-virus solution for Macs, preferring instead to have effective patching and system backup/recovery capabilities, and user education programs. One thing that has emerged from the dozens of conversations I’ve had with people who actually manage Macs in both large and small firms every day, is that not one of them has any illusions about the potential risks, Johnson wrote. He said that in researching management best practices for Macs, hes talked with a number of people running Macs in highly secure environments. Such software takes a lot of computer resources when scanning the system, and theyre too reactive. Johnson questioned whether traditional antivirus software is appropriate for Macs, noting what he called an abysmal track record for such approaches on Windows machines. Every Internet-connected device is vulnerable.įor Mac users, the real question is how to protect the systems. Of course, the Mac is vulnerable, Johnson wrote in an April 6 blog post. Mac users have to understand that their systems are open to threats, according to Forrester analysts David Johnson. Security experts and analysts have said that the threat to Mac users is high because many of them bought into the idea that their Apple systems are essentially invulnerable to attacks, and thus many have not secured the Macs as well as they could have. ![]() Rather than relying on users to download the malware onto their Macs, the Flashback exploit infects vulnerable systems when a user visits a compromised Website. Flashback returned in March as less of a Trojan and more of a drive-by threat. The Flashback virus first showed up last year as a classic Trojan, looking like an update to Adobe Flash that, when executed, would infect the system. The Flashback situation has shaken the notion that Macs were relatively safe from security compromises, and security experts, like security software maker F-Secure, are giving users steps to take to protect their Macs from infection. The extent of the threat to Apple Mac users from the Flashback Trojan is coming into clearer focus, with security software vendor Kaspersky Lab confirming previous reports that more than 600,000 systems have been infected, making it among the largest cases involving the Apple systems. ![]() You can also check out the website Coolors for color pallets ideas. If one’s only going for a single star on each of their hospitals, then these skill won’t matter too much aside from a couple of essentials. Each room specifies what type of staffing it needs and each potential staff member has their own set of strengths and weaknesses for the player to consider. Hiring staff is as easy as clicking into the “hire” menu. Each has its own unique furnishings that appear in the top of the items menu while building them, so one never has to be worried about accidentally leaving a room unfinished. So long as they meet the minimum dimensions, usually 3×3, anything can be done with them. They can be rotated any which way, and can even be picked up in their entirety and moved to a completely different part of the hospital. Rooms can be just about any shape the player wants they can be simple rectangles, large squares with the corners cut-off and so on. Building a room is as simple as choosing it from the menu and then clicking and dragging in the space the player wants it to occupy. Each stage is kicked-off by building the initial set of rooms every hospital needs and then continually adding and improving them based on the hospital’s needs. ![]() Playing Two Point Hospital can be broken up into two sections: building and managing. It’s getting the additional stars that will force players to get creative with their strategies and really dig into the available systems. These goals can take some time to reach, but they’re all easy enough to reach that even those new to sim games shouldn’t have that much trouble with them. Once that’s done, the next hospital opens up and the player is allowed to advance. All one has to do is fulfill a stage’s initial set of goals. Getting one star is easy enough for the most part. Progression in Two Point Hospital is tied to each hospital’s star ratings. It doesn’t matter how talented a manager the player is, there’s no such thing as a single winning strategy that applies to all hospitals. Still others will be located in major city centers, where foot-traffic is plentiful and crises are common. Others will be located in Two Point County’s balmy southern regions, where having a boatload of A/C units is just as important as having enough diagnosis rooms. Some will be located in cold, mountainous foothills catering to accident-prone skiers. Players will eventually find themselves in charge of a whole network of healthcare facilities, each with its own unique needs and quirks. Emergencies are few and the pacing mellow it’s the perfect place to get into the groove of the game and prepare for the insanity coming later. The player starts their career as administrator of a single, no-frills hospital. Two Point Hospital takes place entirely within the expansive Two Point County, a county so large that it has several biomes. This isn’t Theme Hospital remade It’s Theme Hospital improved. The 90s were also the heyday of the simulation game, with the likes of Populous, Theme Coaster and Theme Hospital all releasing within its confines. Platformers, JRPGs, 3D adventures and even horror games all rose to prominence during this time and many of these are now enjoying a nostalgic reinvigoration after twenty years of gradual decline. Players who complete all seven of the Challenges on different characters across their account will be rewarded with a unique flying mount: the Soaring Spelltome!ĭuring Legion, the Mage Tower awarded most specs a new weapon appearance, yet players who missed earning those still have countless other admirable weapon transmogs to collect across the whole of the game. There’s also a new Achievement coming in 9.1.5 for the most well-rounded champions of the Kirin Tor. Reintroducing those same appearances now would diminish those players’ accomplishment, so success in a Mage Tower challenge will now award a Legion-themed armor set for your class. Many players pushed themselves to collect all the appearances they could before the tower closed. When the Mage Tower closed at the end of Legion, it was firmly established that those rewards would become unavailable. The Timewalking Mage Tower Challenges may be the same as those that players experienced in Legion, but the rewards will be different. While the Challenges were considered quite difficult for most of Legion, we’re tuning the encounters in Timewalking to normalize player power, with the intention of providing a meaningful level of difficulty to current players. “Thwarting the Twins” for Balance Druid, Marksmanship Hunter, Frost Mage Shadow Priest, and Affliction Warlock.Įach Challenge comprises a series of solo encounters that must be completely survived to earn rewards, and in Legion Timewalking, they will not require that you have an Artifact, or even that you originally played Legion. “End of the Risen Threat” for Restoration Druid, Mistweaver Monk, Holy Paladin, Holy Priest, and Restoration Shaman. “The Highlord’s Return” for Blood Death Knight, Vengeance Demon Hunter, Guardian Druid, Brewmaster Monk, Protection Paladin, and Protection Warrior. “Feltotem’s Fall” for Beast Mastery Hunter, Windwalker Monk, Discipline Priest, and Destruction Warlock. “The God-Queen’s Fury” for Arcane Mage, Retribution Paladin, Assassination Rogue, Enhancement Shaman, and Demonology Warlock. “An Impossible Foe” for Unholy Death Knight, Feral Druid, Fire Mage, Outlaw Rogue, Elemental Shaman, and Fury Warrior. “Closing the Eye” for Frost Death Knight, Havoc Demon Hunter, Survival Hunter, Subtlety Rogue, and Arms Warrior. The original seven different Challenges (grouped by your specialization’s role) will be available to try repeatedly, for the duration of Legion Timewalking: In Legion Timewalking, the Mage Tower will operate similarly to how it did during Legion. Azeroth’s champions will be able to enter the Mage Tower again. In 9.1.5, Legion Timewalking will become available for the first time, and with Timewalking comes a wondrous way to return to the moments of heroism from the past. When Sargeras was later defeated and dealt his final vengeful blow to Azeroth, the Mage Tower was shut, and it has been inaccessible ever since. Soon after the Burning Legion invaded Azeroth at the Broken Shore, the Alliance and Horde began using the Mage Tower at Deliverance Point for high-end training of their most promising champions. |
